FOSTER CARE WITH FEATHERS OF FREEDOM
At Feathers of Freedom Parrot Rescue, foster homes are the heart of our mission. Whether you’re helping a bird heal or providing a lifelong sanctuary, you are offering safety, compassion, and a second chance.
SHORT-TERM FOSTER CARE
Short-term fostering is typically for a minimum of 30 days, and plays a crucial role in the rescue journey. These placements allow us to assess each parrot’s health, behaviour, and individual needs.
Birds in short-term foster may:
• Be in quarantine after rescue
• Be undergoing medical treatment or rehabilitation
• Be awaiting permanent placement
We provide guidance, check-ins, and where needed, support with transport. Your observations during this time help us match each bird with the most suitable long-term home.
LONG-TERM FOSTER CARE
Long-term fostering means providing a forever home to a parrot under the ongoing guardianship of Feathers of Freedom. The parrot remains the property of the rescue for life, but lives as a beloved member of your household.
Long-term foster carers must commit to:
• A minimum of four hours daily out-of-cage time
• A safe, stimulating environment
• Ongoing communication with the rescue
• Access to outdoor time when possible (aviary or secure outdoor cage)
• Willingness to attend occasional wellbeing checks
This is a lifelong commitment — and one that changes a bird’s world.
